Week 4 - Level 1 GAMES

I had a fun time playing Mythology Island at the  Poptropica game site.  I think, kids can learn while having fun!

We have two Early Literacy Stations in the Children's room and children use them regularly.

Our CYA librarian recommended me the great game site, http://pbskids.org/ which I totally love it.

Week 3 - Level 4 MORE WIKIS

I created a Google site at https://sites.google.com/site/nutleypubliclibrarynewjersey/

I am planning to share this site with my co-workers to organize "One Book Nutley - Reading Together" program.

Week 3 - Level 3 WIKIS

I think NJLA wiki and most of the CSS pages are not updated recently. NJLA wiki was last modified on 7 June 2010 and some of the CSS pages updated 7 or 9 months ago: for example; the latest Children's Services Meeting Minutes is for  9 January 2009. There are 88 entries listed under Childrens Services.  Can these entries be arranged in some kind of order?

WEEK 3 - Level 2 CRAFTS

I added a following craft site to my Delicious:

The best feature of this site: 1000s of Free Printable and Coloring Pages.
We can print copies of these coloring pages and give out to kids so they can color them.

I took the following picture from our library's website and posted here:

WEEK 3 - Level 1 DELICIOUS

I signed up for a Delicious account. (http://www.delicious.com/kiranbpatel)  Yes, it's simple to use and accessible on any computer, BUT I still depend on search engines to find a website when I need it.  I like Display options of the bookmarks.  I was surprised to see that some people have more than 200 bookmarks, made me wondered, how often they  really use them?

Week 2 - Level 4 BOOK TRAILERS

Book trailers are very handy when, it comes to do reader's advisory.  Today, I was given a tough question from a smart parent, who wanted to convince her 8 year old daughter, Jena  to read, junie B Jones series books. But somehow, Jena was not that thrilled.  So, Mom asked me if there is a way, I can help Jena to start reading these books.  And I thought about book trailers right away. After watching videos,  http://www.homepages.dsu.edu/mgeary/booktrailers/ Jena was more than happy to check out two books.  It certainly made Jena read the books. And of course, mom was happy too!

Week 2 - Level 3 LISTEN NJ

I made an accout, using my Nutley Public Library card.
I checked out the teen book, "The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl" by Barry Lyga

We advertised about Downloadable Ebooks and Reader in our  September 2010 to January 2011  Nutley Public  Library newsletter.

Please see the attached link for more information: http://nutley.bccls.org/pdf/newsletter/NewsletterFall-Winter2010_BW.pdf

Week 2 - Level 2 CHOICE BOOKS, NJLA Wiki by the Children's Service Section.

I checked out some of the booklists.  Since the lists are arranged by Age, Genre, Fiction, etc., it's easy to find titles related to the topic to answer readers advisory questions.

Week 2-Level 1 Exercise: SOCIAL CATALOGING

*  I signed up for Library Thing and entered 5 books that I have read  http://www.librarything.com/home/kiranpatel

*  I can use LibraryThing to keep track of the books I personally read.  It allows me to give star ratings and review books.
*  I can create a group with my book discussion members and invite members to sign in and ask them to post their discussions. They can even participate in virtual book discussion. It's definitely worth a try.
*  I think, it's an exciting tool for librarians, since it has the ability to connect with others.

Week 1 - Level 2 PHOTOS

Adding photos to my blog was easy!
I love my Library and wanted to use this platform to show our Library and excellent Children's program offered by knowledgeable Library staff.

Level 1 Exercise - Getting Started

I think setting up a blog was fun.
It was harder than I thought.
I see myself using a blog to advertise our Library programs.
This is my very first blog.
So far, I don't have any favorite blogs.
I dream about so many things, and so far they are changing into realities.
I would create a blog, to advertise our library programs.
